We only buy for immediate family:

    • Mums and dads x2
    • Sisters x2
    • Brothers in law x2
    • Gran x1
then my OH and I get each other a few bits and we have our DD.

In general we buy gifts to the equivalent of £30 per adult however sale shopping and hunting for bargains often means that we get our families great gifts for less money.

As for our DD we don't really keep track as we pick things up throughout the year and as and when it is on offer. Maybe £50 - £70 but a lot of her gifts were 50 - 75% off.
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!
  • im from a familly of 4 children and we are now all grown-ups with children of our own. of the 8 2nd generation children,4 are now adults. we dont buy for the adults but for the youngest children(unless the grown-up children are yours!!).
we had twins this year so our circumstances have changed hugely.

we buy for my our little baby girls, my mum, each other (£95 between them, £20 and about £25 each respectively).

my husbands side of ther family spend a lot more on presents. we buy for mil and her husband, sil and bil, and their 2 children. would buy for the children anyway, and mil, but could really do without sil and bil. hey ho, for the sake of family dont really have a choice. hope i dont sound too scroogy!i should also point out that husbands family have a lot more money than we do. my maternity pay has just finished!
    Aspire not to have more,
    but to be more
  • I don't have set totals as I buy everything throughout the year when I see something, I am annoyed as this year I have bought for everyone and have it wrapped and ready and my IL's specified they're not doing gifts the other day so now I have stuff which is useless as they won't accept it even though I already bought it :(.

Anyway I have my son, I probably spend about £100 in total for him which if you seen the amount is a HUGE present pile as I bought everything in the sale or ebay.

OH - Around £40ish I would say, he has a mix of various things he needs, shirts, ties, socks, boxers, jeans etc again all bought in the sale.
Mum - Probably £20ish, various bits and pieces she would like and she will also get a hamper with snacks and homemade sweets and biscuits.
    MIL - A gift set, around £10
FIL - Bottle of wine £4 instead of £9.
GFIL - Bottle of wine £4 again.
GMIL - Leather bag (£5 instead of £50 and a hand soap gift set I got a few years ago and never used).
Another Gran - around £10 in total.

Normally I would have 2 cousins (around £5 - £10 each, Aunt and partner £5 each etc.)

I love Christmas, it's not all about the present but I love buying something I know they will love and wrapping it, putting bows, ribbons and whatever on and making it special. I do it for my son as well, he doesn't get much throughout the year so this is something special for him. I think it's awful people are made to feel guilty for not buying presents, don't give to receive but that's how majority of people seem to view it these days which is sad.
