stopping bin from marking wall?

We have a Hailo 3-sectioned pedal bin for recycling and normal waste. It is about 60cm high. The back of the hinge for the lid marks the wall it is put against.
Does anyone have any suggestions of something to put on this to stop it happening? I have tried keeping it further away from the wall, but it always ends up migrating back against the wall...
(I also want to cover the edges of my extractor with something to stop it from marking the cream painted cupboards) could I use a bit of clear tape?)

  • How about making a wall hanging that could go behind it from a scrap or offcut of thick wallpaper? Could fix it to a bamboo stick and attach that to the wall so that it can be changed regularly. Walls behind bins often get dirty, so make a feature of the wall behind rather than disguise it. Clear tape might work for your extractor. HTH

put a piece of wood or extra flooring behind it so it doesnt and cannot move back against the wall

The cupboard doors will bump against the extractor edges when we open them, once we are not very careful about it (my fault-I asked kitchen designer to do that rather than have separate cupboards opening away from it, as I wanted the extra space having 1 big cupboard gives you) but the extractor also has quite sharp little edges that I wouldn't mind covering up...
  • How about some rubber tubing or any sort of foamy thing, will cover the metal and stop it leaving a mark against the wall.

I was thinking of felt strips (like the felt you can use to help furniture move on solid floors)
