Rosacea treatment

For many years I have suffered with this condition - tried the metrogel and gave up cos it peeled off and looked really weird.

Eventually (after a good number of years) I went back to the docs last week. My face, especially chin and cheeks and forehead, would regularly become really sore, very red, raised lumps, had a burning sensation and sometimes weeping bits. The doc has prescribed me antibiotics for two months.

Since last week I've been doing some research about the condition and there appears to be some link (though not actually proven) between rosacea and an over-production of eyelash mites (demodex mites). I'm now using a range of tea-tree oil products to help support the anitibiotics and am so happy to report that my skin condition is beginning to smooth out and feel so much better.

It's only been a few days but I am now extremely hopeful about getting control of this condition after years of being at it's mercy.

I have heard about the possibility of mites triggering off this condition. It is unproven, as you say, but perhaps worth looking into, still.

There is a website for acne/rosacea sufferers (perhaps you've come across it already?) which is run by and for rosacea sufferers:

I been told I have rosacea, but I don't get break outs like you described. I just have very red cheeks, I think mine are more broken veins. I am more embarrassed by the redness, and it took me years to find a make up suitable, I also have combination skin. Doc referred me to brittish red cross and I now have cover up makeup on prescription. Although it takes ages to apply, it's brilliant. I have also just come across and started to use VIE all in one foundation, expensive but I can't believe how good it is for coverage, I only apply this now. http://www.vieathome.com/shop/product.aspx?id=25&q=1&level1Id=643&level2Id=1071

Hope this helps fellow sufferers too. :)

Eye mites you should use baby shampoo, strange but true. If you eyelash area is itchey that is a sign of them. So it no itching then you don't have them. I would be very careful of using Tree Tea oil products near the eyes. Also make sure it is the proper Tea Tea Mel something is the latin name.

Actually I was told it is a stomach bug which can cause roseaca. Strange but I suffered from stomach ulcers and the bug which can cause these can according to some research be the cause of roseaca. I suffer from a mild version and Metrogel gel works fine for me, but I only use the size of a 5p piece for both cheeks. Its more reactions to products which causes mine to flair up.

I've bought some Tisserand tea tree skin wash and then use some body shop tea tree moisturiser (it's for night time use but I'm using it as a base layer before my normal moisturiser).

I've also ordered some Dr Bonner tea tree oil shampoo which is organic and free from chemicals.

Thanks for this - I'm using Lilylolo mineral foundation which works well for me but will give this a go too.

    .

Tea tree oil is very strong but I am following the recommended method and mixing it with macadamian nut oil. And it's the proper stuff too! Not wanting to risk my eyesight! Oh, and doing my eyebrows as well.

Baby shampoo is good for cleaning the eyelash area but it's the tree tea oil which actually kills off the mites. As they come out  at night I'm doing it last thing at night and first thing in the morning.

I've already had a blepharitis cyst removed a number of years ago and that too can be linked to rosacea.

    Fingers crossed it all works!

I'm happy to report that the tea tree oil regime is paying off... my skin is smoother and so much less sore.

Of course the antibiotics have a part to play in this massive improvement and I can't really say which is having the most benefit but I'm happy to continue both.

For the first time in years I am now waking without a sore face, without flaky skin and with unsticky eyes. My skin tone is beginning to even out so lots of :j:j:j

It's been worth it! I have now started on my second course of antibiotics and continue with the tree tea oil regime and it's working.

There have been no outbreaks at all and people are beginning to comment on the change in my complexion. :j

Still can't decide if it's the tablets or the oil or the combination which is bringing about the great change but I don't care and will continue with both.

Just wanted to update the thread.
