I have bought a gorgeous silk dress for my wedding in Corfu in June, but it is very creased. How can I get the creases out ??

I was told after buying my wedding dress that if it creased whilst on the way home in the car, the lady in the shop said to hang it in the bathroom when having a bath as the steam would make the creases drop out.
Make sure you don't splash too much water about as you don't want to get water marks on your dress.
Hope this helps!0 -
The first and most obvious thing to do is hang it up in the bathroom and generate as much steam as possible, this should relax the fabric and reduce most of the creases.
Secondly, it is possible to iron silk. you need a cool iron and you MUST iron on the reverse to remove the risk of shiny patches. Is is brushed silk or the really shiny type? if it is brushed then is will be more resiliant to the iron.
Good Luck0 -
Thanks, it is very fine silk, with beading and sequins, so ironing is out of question.!0

When I bought my wedding dress it same from ebay so it was in a box and obviously needs ironing! I've not got round to it yet but the intructions say to try a dry cleaners as they will sometimes do it. Or a professional wedding dress alterations person might do it for you?
If you're feeling very very brave you could try putting a towel/tea towel over it and ironing that but frankly I wouldn't dare for fear of knackering it.
Very good luck and I hope you have a lovely wedding :-)Comping, freebieing and trying to pay the mortgage off early!0 -
If you're getting married abroad then you'll have to pack it up and transport it so don't worry too much about it just now but see if the steamy bathroom works as you'll then know the easiest way of dealing with it when you go to Corfu. Often just hanging it up will sort out a lot of the creases and wearing it (because of body heat) will also help so don't panic too much.0

If you are getting married in Corfu am I right in thinking you will be taking it on a flight?. In which case I wouldnt do any thing to it yet, it will only get creased again on your journey however gently it is handled. I would be inclined to contact your wedding venue or hotel and ask about their facilities for keeping/preparing your wedding items. I am sure that they will have dealt with similar circumstances before and will know just what to do and have procedures in place to make your day a happy one.0

Does it have a hoop under the dress?
No hoop, it is a full length 'shift style' dress with three layers of fabric, the two underneath are man made, but the top 'creased' layer is very fine silk, embellished with beading and sequins. Will try the steam thing, but have to wait until H2B is out of way!!;)0 -
Might be worth contacting the airline also, depending on who you're flying with they may 'hang' it up for you. A little further than Corfu, I know, but when my sis got married in Oz, the airline (Garuda) took the dress into 1st class & hung it up there for her, as to try & avoid any more creases.
I am in the future you know...

take a hairdrier and use this as the heat will help any creases fall outThis time next year Rodney...0
