Allocation Deed

We have just worked out that if we cash in our ISA & endowment policies we can pay off our mortgage :j.
We contacted the endowment companies re: surrender values & have now received letters from them confirming the values. In the letters they state that in order to cash in the policies we need us to send them the endowment schedules & the endowment deeds. What we want to know is what is an endowment deed? We have not a clue what they mean.
