lol. A credit check means nothing.

A debt that is statute barred may still show up on credit records for some time. While one that is not SB can easily be absent from them.

The default date on credit reports is meaningless when it comes to working out whether a debt is statute barred, and payment histories are unreliable and not to be depended upon.

I have never spoken to them they just send letters...
This morning i had an "unknown " phonecall and they said "Is this Miss da da da... they wouldnt say who was calling so i said they had wrong number!!
they called back 5 mins later with the same thing i said You have the wrong number again.. pretty sure its them...
My credit is great i did a credit check 4 months ago and have since opened a few bank accounts and have been approved for £10,000 credit cards but wont take them...

If you send the letter then they should cease chasing you. If you don't, then they can chase you forever is they so wished.

Just because a debt is SB, doesn't mean it vanishes. Chances are it'll probably get passed on again, so keep a copy of the SB letter handy for the next lot of mugs.

You get them off you back by ignoring them up until they issue stamped court papers, these stale debt sharks are the new private parking tickets type scam, they know your debt is barred, they dont care, it is legal to ask you to pay it, but they would not be able to enforce it, so harassment it is.

All you do by sending these template letters is put a live fish on the hook and you go straight to the top of the live catch list for collection.
Now do yourself a favour, ignore them until you get stamped court papers, which you wont as you will have a valid defence.
The advice about these letters is all well and good when dealing with responsible companies, however as proven in your case and many others, they are not responsible companies they are bunny boilers who knew your debt was barred when they bought it.
If they call again, tell them you will try to find the person they are asking for and put them on hold, let them listen to some musak, come back and tell them, no I have asked everyone on the street and they can not find him, please call back and ill try again, if they do, do it again, this time longer.
If they send franked mail, do not open it, put it back in the postbox, they get charged again.
They have a budget on chasing this stale debt, help them spend it.

    Nonsense.

Sending the letter lets them know that you aren't going to listen to their nonsense.

Once you've put your refusal to pay in writing then you can report them to the OFT, TS etc if they continue.

I've seen more than a few court claims issued on statute barred debts now, so that is nonsense.

Besides, the OP wants to end this and put it to bed.

The most effective way of doing that is to send the letter(s).
