Yes the orange colour is usual with goatsmilk. I use it a lot actually as I like the creaminess it gives.

I'm not saying theres anything wrong with castille, its a wonderful soap but I live with males (hubby and teenage son) who like to leave the soap in a puddle of water and olive oil soaps do tend to 'snot' quite easily.

I always use olive oil in my soaps. I have a base that I tend to stick to. This being coconut/palm/olive/shea butter/cocoa butter. After that I play around with oils. I like to add 5% castor as this really helps with the bubbles.

I also like to grind up whole oat groats to a fine talc consistency and mix with a bit of water and add that. I also add honey to it. This is a favourite with everyone as the oats give it such a silkyness.

The posibilities are endless. Try potato water as this adds starches that gives the same qualities as adding raw silk but much cheaper.

Good luck, you'll soon be addicted!

Re: Hot process soap in a slow cooker, thanks so much - I found this tutorial which maybe of use to others:
    http://gracefruit.blogspot.com/2006/01/crock-pot-hot-process-soap-tutorial.html

Yep thats pretty much what I do. Don't expect smooth soap from HP though. As you can see from the tutorial its not pourable once ready, more of a waxy spoonable soap.

Makes no difference to the end soap though, still lovely!

Also, because the soap is ready and saponification has taken place, then any perfumes you add should fix a lot easier.

I was just wondering if it was possible to make your own soap at home? Originally I was trying to think of craft ideas for my little girl to make to parcel up for x**s gifts but then I got to thinking whether it would be beneficial to do this for a supply of our own soap?

I really don't know if it's possible, your thoughts would be great.
