As title, need to find a cheap place for our wedding reception for next June. I'm very open to suggestions but cost is the biggest problem for us.

So many questions! I've got a few catch all tips that might help though..

First, you need to find a place to actually get married. If you're marrying in a church, that might already be sorted, but otherwise you can visit Local Authority websites to see lists of all the licensed venues. E.g. Ealing council's page is here: http://www.ealing.gov.uk/info/200368/births_deaths_and_marriages/746/ceremonies

As well as the registry office, you will usually find a few other 'all in one' places where you can have your ceremony and your reception.

Once you've got the ceremony sorted, your primary concern will be numbers. If you want to accommodate 300 people cheaply, a self-catered hall might be best. I've got a list from when I was looking if you want. If, on the other hand, you want a smaller reception of 50, you might be better hiring a local restaurant or bar...
