Very Online Store: 'Store Card'

Hi

Apologies if this is the incorrect place for this posting but it seems like the closest fit to my problem.

I purchased an Apple iMac from Very through their website and chose the Buy Now Pay Later option which is interest free as long as it is paid for within 12 months. Also on the site at the time were other simultaneous offers for paying it off in three months and their normal store account type offering at 40% APR.

When I purchased it, I am adamant that I chose the Buy Now Pay Later option banner but the email confirmation made no reference to any of the payment options they were offering on their website.

So, the following day I telephoned and a representative 'completed' my order. I asked at least twice for confirmation that I was on the Buy Now Pay Later scheme and she did and said nothing that said that I wasnt. She was tapping away on the computer during the call and so could have been a little vague on her answers.

Anyway, over the next two months, I checked the statements carefully for what plan I was on. Nothing appeared because this pay over 3 installments was still a valid route.

Now the third month has rolled over I am hit with an interest charge. I have raised this with Customer Services who are useless and advise there is nothing they can do as it is outside 45 days. Seems somewhat convenient.

Had I wanted this on credit I would have put it on my credit card at 15% APR instead of the penal 40% they are charging.

I wrote to the chief executive 3 weeks ago - no response.

I wrote asking for a Subject Access Request as I want the telephone recording before they delete it and now they are saying I have to put it in writing to specific address - I initially served it on them by email after waiting 5 days for them to tell me where to send my request to!

I need to pursue the data protection angle before they delete the call recordings as backup but do I have any other tools available under credit law? Perhaps the OFT?

All the time this is ongoing interest is racking up at a stupid £50 per month so I am tempted to obtain a settlement figure to stop that and then perhaps claim back the interest to date through the small claims court? Would that be a reasonable idea?

Any advice from the experienced here would be hugely beneficial and greatfully received.

you have to tick the box on the checkout for buy now pay later and use the code.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Write to the Customer Service department, the CORRECT place to send customer enquiries/complaints.

The Chief Executive is busy making commercial decisions with regards the direction of his company, hence he employs staff to deal with customer complaints on his behalf.

Why is this so difficult to understand?

Probably because in many companies, complaints to the chief executive will get resolved far quicker than normal customer services... (Obviously the CEO doesn't personally do anything but his staff presumably have far more power - or perhaps just more time - to get things done.
  • It says on 'My Account' what scheme your purchases are under, I recently opted for BNPL and tbh it couldn't have been any clearer, plus all paperwork that came with my order is clear about it.

Why did you leave it so long before chasing this up?

Quite simply because if something isnt there - how would I know it was missing?

As I stated, for the first two months no interest was levied on the account and on on the face of it, everything looked ok. Had I purchased from them previously on the same scheme I would have had a reference point to know whether they had set up the correct scheme or not - as it happens, I didnt.

And when you have exhausted the Customer Services route? I have made my case to them and they say there is nothing they can do because it is outside their arbitrary 45 days.
