Hi Folks , i have in a moment of madness volunteered to make pancakes for the oldies at my shelterd housing scheme on shrove tuesday.
There are likely to be around 45 oldies plus me,Oh and DD, and most will want two pancakes.
 So my question is this:
Could i make them the night before or on the same day and stack them???
If this is the case how is the best way to heat them up....nuke em??????
Would this be best individually,or could i do a few at a time?
Also where do you find these little old dears who only eat like a bird?? All mine have the appetites of gannets.:rotfl: :rotfl:
Ever wished you hadn't volunteered for something?_pale_ _pale_ _pale_

I've frozen pancakes before, quite successfully - could you do that in advance?
Well done volunteering, that's such a kind thing to do and it sounds as if the oldies will really enjoy it!:TIf you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

Never even thought about freezing them, that would be even better as i could spread the work over a few days:D
How do you normally cook them after being frozen???
Oh and I am not being totally altruistic in offering to make pancakes;)
But the smoke detectors in the scheme are ultra sensitive and I just had visions of the fire brigade arriving time after time after time whilst they all cooked their own pancakes.
As I would have to deal with this anyway I just thought it would be easier to make them myself and make an event out of it.
Any excuse for a party here_party_ _party_
Thanks for the suggestion

Make them as usual whenever you have the time, freeze them interleaved with greaseproof or foil. Reheat in microwave. Make sure to have plenty of lemon juice and sugar for them - the real OS way to serve them
And good on you for volunteering

I froze my pancakes last week. When they cooled down I put them on clingfilm and rolled them with the clingfilm (I only did a few at a time - but I am just 1...) , then into a freezer bag, into the freezer.
On the day I defrosted them (just took them out in the morning). Nuked them (30 seconds for 2 pancakes)Save the earth, it's the only planet with chocolate!0 -
Right i have a big roll of greaseproof paper which only usually comes out for the xmas cake, so going off these posts I should be okay cooking as normal, stacking between sheets of greaseproof paper, then freezing - suitably wrapped.
Defrost them on the day and then nuke for around 30 seconds for two pancakes.

Thanks everyone, that sounds much more manageable than cooking 96 pancakes from scratch:eek:

Hopefully not too late with this bit of advice:
rather than stack them one on top of the other with greaseproof between (you use a heck of a lot of greaseproof that way), it's a lot easier to roll the pancakes individually, make a row of these rolled ones on a tray, then pop a layer of greaseproof paper on, and make another row on top.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
