TakeNote transcription

My daughter's been looking at this company to make some extra cash.
Has anyone else come across them? Are they OK to work for?
There also doesn't seem to any mention of the paid hourly rate?
Any information would be happily received!

I assume you meant TakeNote Typing? Not that it makes much difference.
These types of things tend to, but not always, be done on a self employed basis and whilst you agree to turn around a task within a certain timescale you are actually paid by the task not by the hour. So if it takes you 3 hours to do it or 30 minutes you get paid the same, assuming it was done on time.
You could always email them to find out how it works etc0 -
The rate paid will be self-employed on a "per audio minute" basis. That is, you're paid based on the length of the audio tape, not how long it takes you to transcribe/type it. Typically it takes 3-4x as long as the audio to type it, but will vary on a job by job basis.0

I would like to sound a few words of caution about this type of work.
Firstly, as explained above it is paid by the minute of audio transcribed, and the time it takes to transcribe will depend on many things-including the sound quality of the file you are set.
Secondly, the company are very very strict regarding accuracy. Obviously you would expect this, as they are providing a professional service to clients, but you will not get away with many "phonetic guesses" with these people! If they don't like the quality of work you submit you may at best get half or a quarter rate or at worst get sacked pretty swiftly. It happened to my son recently. They take no prisoners.
Finally, your daughter will have to register as self employed with HM Revenue and Customs with all the hassle that entails. We now have the job of letting the Tax Office know my son is no longer working for Take Note and asking for their demand for NI contributions to be waived.
In summary, if your daughter is
a)extremely conscientious and accurate with "spot on" (one of their favourite words) grammar, punctuation, spelling and concentration skills and is
b)willing to spend a fair amount of time googling for information when she doesn't understand a word or phrase and c)invests in a first rate set of headphones
then it is worth giving it a go. Best of luck.0
