Improving Credit following Bankruptcy?

Hi,
I'm a newbie to posting on the forums, although I have been an avid reader for a while - and would like to say a big thank you to all those people that unbeknown to them have helped me over the last 2 years :T Hopefully this post will make sense!
Would be grateful for any help and advice on the following.

I was declared bankrupt in Nov 2009 and was discharged in 2010. I have taken the advice posted on various threads in this forum and been tidying up my credit reports - nearly there!!! :)

I am also in the position of splitting up from my husband and we will be selling up and moving out of our current house in about 2 years time. While we've been still together my credit (bankruptcy) history has not been an issue as his credit history is excellent, so access to credit has not been a problem.

My question is this:
How can I gradually improve my credit rating over the next couple of years, so that when we do seperate I am in the best possible position I can be? I realise that the bankruptcy will not come off my file for 6 years, but I feel there must be other things I can do.

I am concerned for example that I will have no chance of obtaining a mortgage, even though I should have 20% deposit available.
And in the day to day things that not being able to get a credit account with energy suppliers, but will have to go on a prepayment meter (which we know from Martin is a lot more expensive)!!

I have 2 children and I want to do everything I can now and in the next 2 years to make sure we're ok and I am in contol and on top of all our finances

Any advice from experts or people who have been in the same position would be very, very appreciated.

Thank you in advance......

Hi PP and Welcome, TF's post is a good place to start but no quick fix unfortunately not until after those six years when the default drop of your credit file.
