Negotiating a settlement figure

Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can find some guides on the correct way to go about negotiating a settlement figure with a creditor??
I too am on a mission to clear my debts this year and have mangeged to shift a CC debt already but I was a serial defaulter and skipped on a number of debts for a number of years. Now i want to get my house in order so to speak and want to pay them all off. The compound interest does however stick in my throat and i was wondering the best way to go about making an offer and some guides on what would be reasonable???
