Cheap gifts for boys?

  • Last year for my cousins (then 6 and 2.5) I made a huge box full of colouring books, crayons, paint, clay, glue, stickers, etc. Any crafty thing you can think of.

I would do what another poster above suggested and wrap a cardboard box with Xmas paper then put some crafty things in.

Home Bargains do Play Doh, 4 for £1.99 which you could split. Tesco have things like Tesco Value crayons (50p), colouring pencils (12 for 24p) and felt tips which you could take out the boxes if you like. You could even print out your own colouring in sheets (http://www.activityvillage.co.uk/christmas_coloring.htm) to put them in the boxes. Home Bargains usually have cheap Xmas colouring books and stickers.

Tesco also have bags of stars, pom poms, etc. for £1 to glue on things - you could split them up into sandwich bags/similar and tie with some Xmas ribbon? Glitter glue in Tesco is £1 for 4, Glitter is £1 for 4, etc.

Tesco also do this for £2 - not sure what's in it - http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Details/?id=253660208

You could also buy plain white mugs (6 in Argos for £3.99) and buy some pens that will draw on ceramic (there are some on Amazon for £5 but I'm sure you could get cheaper), write their names on the front with a Xmassy design and maybe a Snowman Soup recipe on the back? Then put hot choc, choc chips, marshmallows, etc. in bags? Primark might have some 2 pack PJs for good prices, you could split the packs to go with the mugs?

If all else fails I usually do 3 for 2 in Boots. They often have little building kits - meccano/lego or similar. Boys are easy to please, but the choices are much less than for girls. Try the Tesco sale also. Just chuck in some chocolates too, guaranteed to distract them!

Or explain to their parents that you can't afford presents this year due to your illness and hubbies redundancy. I bet the kids don't notice. My children prefer to be taken out for the day by their Aunties - even a trip to the park, with a hot chocolate or ice cream is very special when someone else takes them. It may be an option for some of them?

Have you got 'The Works' near you? They have great kid's books and activity/craft kits etc. I got a gorgeous hardback dinosaur book with stickers in it last year for my friend's son. It was £3, but looked much more expensive.
  • There are a few crafty ideas on flyingpigs thread to "bulk" out whatever you do buy, like little monkey milkshakes and snowman soup.

My local Sainsurys have had stationary items on sale since September, I keep picking up bits for party gifts every time I go shopping there.

I did lots of my shopping in the Lloyds pharmacy buy 1 get 2 free.

I have a few of these: http://www.lloydspharmacy.com/en/discover-it-space-buggy-binoculars-16231 I think price sticker said £15

I also bought toy story water pistols with bath stuff, solar powered boats, sectre identity kits. Might be worth having a look in store.
  • £land is great for gifts, find out if they have nintendo ds and get them a pack of stylus from there the kids are always loosing them, head phones and books too.

If you have an Iceland they do a big tub of marshmallows for 99p they are great, one of those and a book from £land and your done :)

And do recycle unwanted gifts, just make sure you dont give them back to who gave them to you in the first place! LOL

    Good luck.
