Mortgage or continue renting?

Hi there, Me and my wife are trying to decide wether, getting a mortgage and owning our own property is the 'be all, n end all' of securing our finances in the future? I've been looking at the cost involved in borrowing to buy a house and wondered if there was possibly an alternative to having our future finances sorted?…

Dont forget though, that rents are always rising it seems and also inflation is eroding away at any debts you may have meaning if your wages increase due to inflation then your mortgage payments remain the same but if you rented then rents would increase in line with your pay increase.
