I write to you to complain about the treatment I have received from the Tax Credit Office.

I wrote previously several years ago to complain about the fact that I was stuck with “overpayments” of tax credits. After much correspondence I was informed that all the “overpayments” were to be completely written off and I was supposed to receive a paltry amount of compensation for the inconvenience.

    I received absolutely nothing.

I have been on the telephone today to enquire as to why my weekly tax credits payment had been cut by £43.13 a week as I had been checking my bank statement. I was told that it was done in order to recover overpayments of around £130!

Why was I not informed of this?

I was under the impression that all the overpayments had been written off. It was established that I have always informed the TCO of any changes in circumstances in a timeous manner and that any overpayments had been because of official errors as it was established that the Tax Credit Office had not implemented previous changes at the time they were notified.

Why am I yet again being penalised for the incompetence of others?

By cutting my tax credits you have left me almost £200 a month worse off. I am not on a high wage. I am the only wage earner in my family and you think that it is okay to cut £200 from that money. I have now been left seriously short for paying bills and paying for petrol in order that I can get to my job and do my work that pays my wages.

That is something that is not taken into account when calculating tax credits. It costs me £70 a week in fuel costs. I do not get any help with that.

I am absolutely disgusted that yet again, I find myself having to write a complaint to the Tax Credit Office which will be passed round the departments and will take months to sort out.

As far as I have been concerned for the last 5 years I have had NO overpayments on my tax credits account. I have had NO compensation for the inconvenience your department has caused me in the past and is further causing me now.

I would appreciate it if you could arrange for a full refund of all monies taken from my tax credits payments. I would also like a full written apology for all the inconvenience that your department has caused me in the past and now again.

I would also appreciate it if you could arrange for the compensation I was promised to be paid to me, as well as compensation for the financial and emotional stress caused by this second round of incompetence by the Tax Credits Office.

Does your department realise the stress that it has caused to me and my family? Probably not.

I would appreciate it if you could answer this letter as quickly as possible.

    Yours sincerely

On 15 March 2011, I sent you the enclosed letter. I received an acknowledgement shortly after.

I have yet to receive any response to the letter.

I am thoroughly disgusted and am considering contacting my Member of Parliament as this treatment is thoroughly unacceptable.

I would appreciate a response to my letter within the next week to ten days.

If I do not receive a response, I will have no option left to me and will have to contact my MP.

    Yours sincerely

  • Hello ladies,
First time reader of your thread - great efforts so keep it up! Im forces too, and not only in a similar position, but have a lot of guys in my unit who I look after in a similar boat.

Just be a little careful when "purging" kit whilst your fellas are deployed. All issued kit remains the property of the Crown whilst a soldier is still serving. If it is discovered that his kit is being sold then he/they can face disciplinary action.

    Keep up the tremendous efforts!

Welcome to the madness Devon Sailor!!! :beer:I'm okay as OH is no longer serving ... seems we must have kept all the surplus kit for this moment lol. He went to hand it all in (filled the back of a zafira!) and came home with about half of it as he had bought so much over the years! Am looking forward to getting rid of it all!:j

Welcome also to you jasperconran (love the name btw) and thank you for your kindness:D! I'm just plodding along and hoping that one day I'll be in a position to buy the house we currently live in.

I would have to say that I have been totally inspired by my new friends Skint But Optimistic and Gargrave ... their diaries have helped me immensely over the last few weeks.

I started my own diary on here to push me into getting things sorted out. I really needed a kick up the backside as all I was doing was paying the minimum on the debts and just trying to keep our heads above water.

Now, I am determined to get back everything I am due, sell anything we no longer need (and isnt nailed down :rotfl:) and try to get us debt-free as quickly as possible. Then the fun will start, trying to save up for a healthy deposit on this place.

Anyhow onward and upward to us all! I have to sort this place out and so will get my a$$ in gear ... shopping and laundry and general clearing up is desperately needed.
