Car loan declined... and then approved?

Options
Hello all,

New here, and looking for a answer to this little gem.

Last weekend we went looking for a replacement car as we were given the impression from the insurance company that our current car had been written off. We found a car and spoke to the dealer at ford about moving forward with it. Turns out a couple of days later that the credit application had been declined. Apparenlty it was something to do with a single missed payment 5 years ago??!!??

Anyway dealer said he'd return the £250 deposit and that was that.

On friday I got a call from another sales guy at the same garage saying that he had "managed" to get credit approval for the car using another company and asking if I wanted to go ahead.

The £250 deposit hadn't been returned to us, although it'd been 5 days since the call to say it was being returned.

I do not want to go ahead with the purchase of the car and I am frankly annoyed that they went ahead, without my permission, and applied for credit, and that they had not returned my deposit when they said they would.

Where do I stand on this? I am heading to the garage in about an hour and will be speaking with the head of sales, about getting the deposit back there and then. However I would be interested to find out of they have acted illegally or have broken any roles around the application for credit.

Thanks

Rob

no as your form you signed with them wasnt for a specific finance company, a lot of places do it. It will be a subprime lender
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • you can still get your deposit back ,they are not allowed to keep it :i was told this from a evans halshaw salesman.
just say you would like your deposit back although when i chaged my mind about a car it took 3 weeks of calling everyday to get mine back

If It's Evans Halshaw they've probably spent it on another "We Buy Cars 4 Cash" sign.....they are the gypsies of the motor trade world.
