have you tried using the oat groats to make raw flapjacks in dehydrator?

soak the groats in water, then strain and process with maple syrup, apple, raisins, etc.

spread on teflext sheet on dehydrator, or dry in oven on extremely low setting.

    I haven't got a dehydrator - how do I process the oats? I also don't have a food processor (only a blender).

    Thanks

might be worth trying to blend them after they've been soaked.
or do you have one of those 'kitchen drills' ( a hand blender)?

I would've thought they'd be fine with either tool as long as they've been soaked overnight b4.

don't forget to strain them first so they aren't too soggy as will take forever to dry.

This is a very ancient thread i know but I am desperately searching to buy a bulk quantity of organic oat groats...I've searched online but the main supplier (Infinity Foods) keeps being out of stock.
    Can anyone help please?

    Hi npsmama,

Have you tried this site? They have 5kg bags for £10.38 and 25kg bags for £41.86. You can find delivery charges here.

Sorry, I've never bought them so I had nothing to compare them with.

  • On the subject of recipes for oats, I made some lovely oatcakes (biscuits yesterday) and was amazed how simple they were to make.

    200g Oatmeal
    75ml hot water
    1 tbsp melted butter
    1/4 tsp bicarb soda
    Salt

Mix all ingredients together. Roll out and cut with a pastry cutter (or cup/mug jam tart size). Cook for 15 mins in a preheated oven @ 200c. They come out really crisp. Great with hummus/cheese/etc.

I'm going to try the next batch without bicarb and replacing the butter with olive oil.
