Boot fair or ebay? tips please!

I am probably odd - but I've never been to a boot fair in my life, or sold anything on ebay... can manage to sell books on amazon, but that's about it.

decluttering is going on here, there's lots of stuff we could make some cash from I think, but I dont really know where to start - how much anything is worth or what I could ask for it; whether its better to try a boot fair or ebay, etc etc. I've already got 5 carrier bags of tatty clothes for the clothes bank in the car park.

what I've got to sell is basically nicknacks - some are quite nice but none have any real value.

any tips for absolute beginners??

If you have a lot of ornaments and household items of little intrinsic value then a car boot may be best. However by the time you've paid petrol and entry fee you could be looking at £10. So even if you're charging 50p per item (and some booters still think 20p is the max they should pay for anything) you've got to sell 20 items or more just to break even and buyers will haggle. You'll probably bring at least 50%, maybe 75% of the items back. We used to take at least £100 worth of stuff and were very lucky, making about £60. Other posters on here have done better though.

If you had an alternative way of making money for the 6 hours or so you'll spend loading up, driving, attending, driving back, unloading it would probably be more worthwhile.

Lose your car boot virginity by first going along as a buyer. See what is selling and for what price, see what remains on the sellers' tables.

Finally, outdoor boot sales are now coming to an end for this year, so you may have to wait until spring.

I've never heard of that! all my old kids' stuff goes to friends, so this is just real dross - paint-stained, tatty stuff.

You can also see if there is a local pub auction. You take your stuff and they sell it for you and you call back in for your money. They take 10% usually for selling it. Sister in law has made over £100 in the last two auctions and it took up little time.
The best bargains are priceless!!!!!!!!!! :T :T :T
