Band at the Reception: How much did you pay?

Hi all.

We are looking to book a band for our wedding reception and I was just wondering what the going rate is.

How much did you pay for the band that played at your wedding reception?

Cheers.

I paid just under £900 and this was the third cheapest band i contacted. The cheapest band i saw was £750 and the most common prices were about £1240.

Go out and see some local covers bands at venues, find one you like and ask them a price for a party, which it is, a wedding party.
A lot of the so called "wedding bands" are more cheese than Wallace and gromit and just about guaranteed to empty the venue.
A lot get confused with what type of music people want to hear and book bands doing 50's+60's to keep mum and dad happy, who sit there wondering why you have a band playing music for 90 year old people.
Look at the age range, if they are 40'/50s then the 80's was it, so you need a band covering from the 80's onwards.
Leave it to the venue and you will end up with a cheesy wedding band churning out band of gold and the drifters.
What music were you in to ?
A good local covers band will have your arm off at £350

We are looking for a decent folk/Celtic band.

Most towns have a Irish music pub, research and have a trip down, the landlord will most likely know just what you need and the price will be a fraction of the cheesy wedding bands.

We are getting a blues brothers tribute and are paying around £700. I would say make sure you shop around, but don't necessarily go for the cheapest! A bad band would be cringeworthy!

I think I would cringe and cringe again at a "Blues brothers tribute"

Someone made a good thread recently about band prices and things, from the perspective of the band. I thought it was pretty interesting.

We paid £400 for an Irish trio last September, that included their travel as they are based 40 miles away from us & our wedding venue. In fact we're off to see them again tonight as they are playing in our home town.
