  • I haven't tried these recipes, but I've tried other recipes from Bryanna and they've always turned out well.

Vegetarian 'Ground Pork' Patties, Links or Meatballs

    Bryanna's New 'Saucy Neatballs'
(these will hold together when cooked in sauce)

Here is a picture of the 'neatballs'.

I have bought the packet/sachets of "sosage" I think it is by Granose but I might be wrong:confused: (Holland and Barratt anyway)

In the past I made burgers from them but recently I bought some and mixed it as per the instructions, but then formed it into small balls, I then heated some oil in a frying pan and very swiftly heated them up just to "seal" them.

I made my usual spaggetti sauce and ta da, meatballs & spaggetti sauce:D

It was very nice and I even had enough from one packet ( about 99pence) to make a good 4 portions depending on your appetite of course;)

  • I used to make meatballs using mince and a dry pack of stuffing mix then cooked them in a tomato sauce which was absorbed by the stuffing. I now rehydrate some soya mince and then add that to the stuffing mix v.v. cheap.

  • Protoveg "Sosmix" makes excellent meaty balls, that cook well in tomato sauce and also still hold together if you fancy adding more soya or mushrooms, peppers etc.

Sosmix does make great meaty balls - but it has a high proportion of hydrogenated vegetable oil, which is INCREDIBLY bad for you - I belive stuffing mixes can contain high amounts also.

I haven't had a huge amuont of success with making meatballs with soya mince personally - but then I avoid products high in hydrogenated oils. In factthere is a news story just today on about how they can affect fertility - most manufacturers are trying to find ways to stop using them and they have even been banned in New York City.

Their use is closely linked with high cholesterol and heart disease.

Sorry, this doesn't answer the question really...

As an aside - if you are not veggie, I would say make the meatballs maybe 'half and half' with meat mince and soya mince.

I have just found this recipe online:

I had never thought of adding cheese, but that would probably work fairly well to help bind the ingredients.

Organic Sosmix doesn't have hydrogenated oils (at least, it didn't last time I bought some).

Really? Thats interesting. I don't think there was an organic variety the last time I bought it. I can't find the ingredients online, so will have to have a look the next time I am in a health food shop - thanks for that!

Stockists are on there for them, inc the organic variety

Hydrogenated fats aren't allowed in Organic products so if it's certified Organic it won't contain them.
