How far in advance would Save the Date cards go out?
My weddings not for 20ish months but I've read several different time scales from 1 year to 6-8 months before the date.
Do you only send them to day guests or do you send them to evening guests too?
I'll be making them myself so can adapt them if needed.
Thanks in advance
Lisa

I have 8 months until my wedding so am sending them now - I have only done the day guests at the moment but will be sending them to the evening guests as well as most of mine have to travel a fair distance. x0

You send the cards out when you feel the time is right to let everyone know...Personally I wouldn't suggest you send them out more than a year in advance mainly because people may forget about them or read the date as 2012 rather than 2013...but if you have family or friends abroad then its good to give them plenty of warning in arranging travel plans...
Again personally I would only send them to the day guests that you want at the wedding and perhaps not to the evening only guests...basically if an evening guest received a save the date they may assume that they are being invited to the whole thing rather than just a few hours in the evening and that could end up a little tricky when un inviting them closer to the day when you only intended to invite them in the eveningfrugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

I didn't follow any set 'rules' but gave some out last month to some people who I am inviting for the whole day (9 months beforehand). I did that to give them some advance warning not to book a holiday as the wedding is in June! :j
I gave some to my fiance to hand out at his work as there's some people he wants to invite to the evening so I just added the words 'for an evening reception'. However he hasn't handed them out yet as I found them the other day at home :doh:He says he forgot.....it took me ages to make them.
20 months in advance might be a bit early to send them out but you can always shout it from the rooftops :rotfl:SPC 9 # 5360 -
I'm sending mine out with my Christmas cards this year, we're getting married in october 2012, so its probably a bit early, but saves me paying postage twice!0

That sounds like a great time to send them out and very MSE!SPC 9 # 5360 -

At the moment I'm just making myself a timetable with what I need to do and when, with the hopes of not overlooking or having to rush anything.
I was looking at sending them out in the December but never actually thought of sending them with the Christmas cards.
I was going to send the invites to my family in America when I send their Christmas stuff (next year), but had never though about sending them with the UK Christmas cards.
Thanks everyone.0 -
If it were me:
Tell all day guests now by Facebook/word of mouth at the wedding is booked for 'x'
12 months before, probably 53 weeks before the wedding date I'd post out the Save the Dates to day guests. Spend a couple of months informally inviting evening guests when you see them.
3 months before send out formal invitations, including an RSVP that you've put a stamp on - it does cost, but people are far less inclined to forget to RSVP. We had about 80% RSVPs with this, the rest were chased up by family etc to get them posted back.0 -
Hi,
We sent ours out in Feb as were getting married abroad so people need to save a week if they are coming. We wanted to give people plenty of notice so they could save up if they wanted to come. We also knew that the holidays for 2012 would be released around July time so wanted people to have chance to get good deals. So i'd say it depends on your circumstance, if you are going abroad or have family who need to book flight to get to you then the earlier the better.Married the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :jIt was amazing.0 -
I'm in the process of making mine now
Our wedding is in August so I will be sending mine out before Christmas. I can hand-deliver most of mine but will be sending others out with Christmas cards.
My save the dates are credit-card sized with a magnet on the back so they can be stuck on the fridge - I love them and am so proud... I love seeing my one on the fridge, makes me smile every time0
