I have an idea

I've been thinking about setting up a cashback site. I have a few unique things that would help (including some innovative ways to earn free points) but am a little concerned that I won't be able to get anywhere near the 100% cashback rates offered by TCB and Quidco. Do you think that people would be interested in a cashback site that offered 50-75% if it had good free points offers?

What are the key things that would drive you towards a cashback site, and what do you not like about them?

I look for sites which pay the most and have a reputation for being reliable payers. Anything else is a bonus

The market is over crowed, lots of cashback sites went under 6- 18 months ago people lost money. I doubt very few savvy people will trust a new site and if you cant pay 100% then I doubt you will succeed

Yes you might get some but most of us want and expect 100% cashback

There are plenty of white label sites around but I doubt many are popular

I wouldn't trust many sites I am happy with TCB they pay me 101% and no fee unlike quidco. I doubt you could compete with that

Even if people just took the free points, it'd be good for me. Are you saying that you'd not join a site just for the free points?
  • I don't understand the "100%" cashback bit.
Isn't it the commission the company earns being given back to you?
In that case, how do you know what commission they're on, and thus whether you're getting it all back?

If you set up a company, and a customer bought an item, and you offered, say £10 commission "cashback", how would we know the site didn't get paid £20 in commission?
(Sorry for being thick, and asking such as basic question.)

Most of the time, you wouldn't know except by comparing what different sites offer. I fully expect that most people won't do this, so it's not that massive a problem, but I'd like to have some appeal to dedicated money savers as well as to the more "average" consumer. To compound things, the bigger sites can negotiate better deals with the suppliers so get more commission, making the new site look worse by comparison.

I'm guessing that a good 80% of the people out there are not going to go to all the trouble of checking all the different cashback sites to find out which has the best offers, and that if such people can be compelled to join my site by the free points that they may stay and buy things through the links for more points. It's just a question of getting it in front of them in the first place.

At the same time, I would want to give a good experience, and to have people recommend the site, so I would hope to be able to point out bargains and offers that people can take up and encourage them to use my links to earn points at the same time.

Just to clarify, I've not built this site yet, nor will I be able to do so for a while (as I have no web at home). It's something I'd look to launch maybe around Christmas time or in the new year. I will not be providing links here for it (as per forum rules).
