With my impending redundency only 6 weeks away and no other job to go to as of yet, could anyone recommend any good websites to find a job.

I've looked through the usual few Jobsite, Monster, Total Jobs etc the ones Google seem to come back with.
Thing is I really want to try something different, but really dont know what!! I am currently working in the Print industry but I dont want to carry on with it as I find it so boring, plus theres no work around for it anyway.

Any help is always appreciated.

One thing to be aware of with job websites is that a number of the jobs may be duplicates. There will also be a number that have already been filled so I'd restrict any search to the last 7 days or less.
A lot of the jobs are with agencies. You might find it difficult for some of them to comprehend that you want to change track. You are likely to find that they'll try and pigeon hole you and some may also ignore you because your previous experience doesn't match exactly the role they are advertising.

I have noticed that. A lot of the jobs are the same on every website and just direct you to a certain agency. Also with me wanting a change of career its hard to get that point across.

I have noticed on many of the sites i have registered with are a total waste of time, i have email alerts set up and to be honest the jobs i get sent are destined for the delete button as they aren't related to my search criteria. Plus like others have said the jobs seem to be th same with every site i have been on.

If you want to hop into IT, jobserve.com is the one to go for. Think of all the IT-related elements in your current job (pagemaking, networks, research, photoshop, database use, etc) and make sure you have a version of your CV emphasising them.

IT CV's are very function-driven - at the top put your name and contact details, then a sentence about the roles you're interested in ("Technology specialist working mostly within the print and design industries looking to broaden my IT skills into other sectors").
Next launch straight into 'Key Skills' - 8 or so key skills you're best at - not necessarily all technical, anything you do well which may be useful to an employer (team leading, photoshop design including CMYK colourspace finishing, Windows server support in small workgroups, Joomla configuration, whatever - get technology names in there, so Excel if you use it, and your proficiency level).

Now you list your jobs in reverse order, starting with the latest, and what IT-y things and projects you worked on

Now education, highlights only

Now languages

Now Interests

Now references.

The point is that in IT, people don't fully understand the problems they have, so will see a pile of CV's, and hone in on key words, then look for backup further down the page. The first half of the first page should contain everything they need to know to decide to hire you, the rest is really supporting what you claim.

This format may work in other industries too, but it goes a long way in IT - putting yourself in the recruiter's position, you can see how it makes their job easier to know at a glance that you can solve their problem (which is why people hire other people), rather than having to wade through to the middle of page 2 (like they teach you CV's in schools!)

I'd personally disagree with the above format for IT jobs somewhat. One of the biggest problems potential employers have been saying to me is they are seeing technically very capable candidates, but they completely lack "soft" skills, such as ability to work as part of a team (ie not just on their own in a corner). Opening paragraph should be short, but more than a single sentence. I'd expand a bit about current role (keeping it brief) but most importantly really showing why you are looking to move on - and into what areas.

Then I'd do a bullet list of languages/methodologies/programs used, followed by "Other skills" eg leadership and communication. Relevant job history next - each one noting skills etc used there, which should tie up with the list already mentioned. Education next, then interests. I personally don't put references on a CV, just the "available on request" sentence.

I'm not an expert CV writer, but this format has proved successful for me

Of course that all depends on if buzzby is looking for something in IT!

jobrapido is a fab site - you can be as random or specific as you want for the search . . good idea for when you're looking for someting different, I have found them to be very upto date too, unlike many other sites with out of date jobs.
