National Insurance Employee Contributions Threshold?

Hi, have just started a second job with a different employer.

Can someone please confirm at what level of weekly income I would be required to pay National Insurance contributions?

Thank you. :)

£139 per week at present. Above 102 your employer must operate your pay through the PAYE system even though there may be no deductions to make.

Thank you. I will be earning approx £99.00 per week gross to start with, so no national insurance contributions to be paid, just the basic rate tax at 20%.

    Thanks for the info :)

This may seem like a silly question, but if I earn over £139 in any one week, do I pay National Insurance contributions from the very first £, or only on the amount that is over the threshold?

if you earnt 140 in a week you would pay NI only on the £1 at 12% so on your £140 you would pay 12p

If you ever have any difficulty getting to sleep you can read all about it here http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/rates/nic.htm, that should get you snoozing pretty quickly!

As long that the two employers are not associated/linked in any way you will be fine. If they are, for National Insurance purposes, you are regarded as having just one employer and you will pay NIC on combined earnings of £140 per week or above.
