Yes, full rent paid but only a reduction in assumed council tax of £1,000 a year. £17,000 in WTC and CTC, £4,000 CB, so £30,000 in benefits, plus the £15,000 wages. It will take you about 2 mins to check on the link above. If there is any disability, carers allowances the figures will go up!
BREED beats working for a living!!0 -
My wife looked at getting a PT job now our daughters 11 months old. We have 4 kids, 15, 10, 7 and 11 months. I am self employed working FT. When we looked at the benefits via turn2us we chose for her not to get a job, as we ended up just £25 a week better off with her in work. Most of that would be taken up in fuel not to mention work clothes and all the other things needed for work. We looked at her going full time and it worked out about the same!
My partner was upset about this as she wanted to take a job to have a break from the family and a bit of extra cash at the end of the month. But why would anyone want to work for less than £1.25 an hour??!Here today, hospital tomorrow

When I returned to work after my 3rd child, we ended up worse off by about £30 a week (the difference in tax credits and giving up carers allowance, fuel to work etc), so I was effectively working for nothing initially.
But mentally, it was oh so worth it, it gave me my self respect back, a break from the children and their disabilities and the chance to talk to adults instead of doing baby talk all day....plus, after a while, my salary increased, I started to get bonuses and eventually, I was bringing in a fair bit more than we would have had on tax credits and carers allowance.
For me it was not a financial decision...I needed to be working for my own health. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Agreed! When I relocated due to my relationship breakdown when my Son was a baby I looked at worse case senario if I couldn't get a job straight away what I would get on benefits and discovered I was only £7.00 per week better off working!!! Take into account travel costs to work and work clothes I have to buy I am probably worse off but I love working and no way would I not work.0
