Am I the only sad one that loves to jig n juggle my figures? I feel like I am some sort of weird, geeky, obsessive figure cruncher!?!?!?!
:o
I too enjoy this sad pastime
Got my little colour coordinated spreadsheets (electronic and paper based...) as well as lists of what I intend to do and what my budgets are going to be for each month next year in order to maximise my savings

Please can we join this challenge and aim for the 12k. We have just worked hard for the last 6 years to pay off our mortgage (did it just before Christmas... was one hell of a present to each other :rotfl:)
We need to focus and keep saving though as we'd eventually like to move to a place with a little bit of land but want to do it without having to take out another mortgage, this challenge will keep us on track.
I'll spend this weekend going through the cupboards and drawers, I am certain there is enough toiletries and cleaning stuff to keep us going for years!! :T0 -
Hi all,
Only one full day left before the challenge begins, so exciting!
I would also love to see a sample of someones spreadsheet, I'd love to set one up but don't know where to start.
Another 7 items gone on ebay today. I'm like many others, though, of an opinion, that people won't spend much next month so have only been listing cheap items of baby clothing with £0.99 starting price (at least no listing fees to pay). If ebay introduce a free listing weekend in January I might list more expensive stuff.
So far I've opened an internet saver account with my own bank, it only pays 2.8% AER variable but it's better than nothing. I'm planning to do something similar to virtual sealed pot challenge, at the end of each day I will round the figure in my bank account to the nearest pound and transfer the change to the savings account.
I'm also tempted by stoozing but not sure if I can be disciplined enough to keep on top of it... Does anyone else do it?0 -
Starting soon, got everything in place! Also just waiting t hear if my car will be ok then I should be set for my challenge! From England - Live in Edinburgh and work as a bus driver0

Would anyone be able or willing to post a spreadsheet (edited as necessary) to give me an idea of how I could use one?I would also love to see a sample of someones spreadsheet, I'd love to set one up but don't know where to start.
I don't know how much use my spreadsheet would be to anyone else. I have five pages in excel:
First page is a "detailed" account of all my outgoings which come off my salary each month to December 2012.
Page 2 is a note of all my yearly payments e.g. Car insurance, home insurance, tv licence, road tax etc (I pay them all yearly rather than in instalments). It is kind of like a notes page.
Page 3 is a note of Mr G's loan payments - this is not really anything to do with me, just a reminder for when he asks me! I used to have my own loan payments on this page.
Page 4 is a note of all my incomings and summary of outgoings for each month. I only do this one month or so in advance as things like my CSA money differ each month. I add in outgoings not included on page 1 e.g. I pay £10 per week to an account for Little Miss Gap's cats rather than pay insurance for them and these payments don't come out of my salary.
Page 5 is my plan for the year to come in this challengeI suppose it is my savings page. Although I am officially aiming for £5k I actually need more than that over the year so I also have a note of the other amounts that I need.
I'm not actually sure how I would post my spreadsheet on here. If anyone is that keen to see, PM me your email address and I am happy to forward a copy on. Beware that it might be complete nonsense to anyone normal :rotfl:
GapMortgage at 12/07/2022 = £175,000
Mortgage today = £161,690.76
300 271 payments to go.House buyout fund £21,000/£40,000

Have set up my spreadsheet in preparation for tomorrow:j.
But it doesn't look like I will have much work in January so I might end up having to dip into my current savings. According to the rules of the challenge, do I have to make up the loss i.e. go into February with a negative savings balance?
2014 Savings Challenge #161: £6771.58 /£40000 -
Good luck everyone it starts tomorrow, wont be putting anything down till the middle of the month though :-)0

i recycled a notebook from dd as i found it much easier than a spreadsheet .

Hello everyone!
The front page has been updated again - I can't believe that so many people have joined in this challenge, it's so exciting! I'm not sure when I'll be able to start adding to the pot, we just have to see what the future brings, but a huge GOOD LUCK to eveyone in this challenge - remember that saving anything is better than saving nothing!Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.
