  • £850 declared for Movember! I think i will just miss out on the 12k but it was a tall order and I will still aim to get as close to it as possible, I am still continuing to over pay on mortgages also! Bought 60% of my Xmas presents today and used high street vouchers I had saved up so outlay for Xmas is currently around £20!

Almost Christmas and its amazing to see how much money everybody has saved this year!

Good savings everyone :) Almost a tricky time with Christmas right round the corner, but it's going well.

We ended up saving £1,291.24 this month... wasn't the cheapest month due to a couple of expenses in addition to Christmas presents, but this was balanced out by a bit of 'unexpected' income. So a good month overall. Should definitely reach our target for the year now :)

    Hi all

This month has been much better than I anticipated. In spite of a larger than usual credit card bill (I pay off in full every month) I managed to transfer £845.97 to savings account. So that leaves me with £532.17 to find in December if I'm to meet my target. In any other year that would be a tough call for me in December, but I have a secret weapon up my sleeve this year.

Last January I set up a standing order for £350 a month transfer to an account earmarked for household repairs and christmas spending (piggy banking). Up until late summer it was regularly raided (& supplemented) for repairs & improvement work on the house, but since then it has been accumulating for the extra christmas spending bit. I've now got £1500 in that pot (£1850 if I include the Dec transfer) earmarked for extra spending in Dec & the inevitable big credit card bill in January. I've also got another pot of money that has been accummulating towards my household and car insurance bills - both of which are due on 1st January. (I've not included any of my piggy bank savings in amounts declared for the 2012 savings challenge - as I always intended that the pots would be spent within year).

I'm feeling the benefits now from piggy banking, although it did make it harder for me to save in the initial stages of this challenge. I'd anticipated that when I set my initial target at a cautious level of £3600. I got to that target back in August, and I'm hopeful I'll get to my revised £6000 target by the end of December.

See you all at the end of the month/new years day for champagne toast to the year's achievements. :)
  • Well folks I think I am out until the 2013 challenge. OHs car had to be towed home last night so my shiny new £2k emergency fund will need to be used (hopefully not all of it but we will need to wait and see what the garage says).

I suppose that's what an emergency fund is for but I was hoping to build up a bit more before something major happened. Will see you all over on the 2013 thread in January.
  • No 189 here, with £1700 declared for November, which means I have now beaten my year target of £10 000 by 700 pounds so far! :D

Fingers crossed I may also make £12 000 by the end of the month - its only £1300 to go, and I don't have too many extra expenses to cover this month despite Christmas.

Naturally I will also be joining in next year!

Whew the car only cost £130 to fix - spark plugs and coil pack (whatever that means) so still have my £2k intact.

  • Hi everyone.

My amount saved this month is £242.87 (member 159). Total now £2622.30. I had to reduce my goal to £3000, but not sure I'll reach it given its Christmas, but never saved that before in a year! So this is good for me.

Well, didn't manage to save my normal monthly £1k last month which is disappointing. May get it later in the month but will need to focus on the credit card first. Christmas shopping definitely taken its toll...buying Kindles, iPads and an expensive home made advent calendar with presents every day for parents and sister - didn't help at all.

Made some good decisions though - first and foremost, have joined £13k in 2013 (sorry but £12k just doesn't make sense!!), will be increasing my mortgage from January up to the full repayment amount (on interest only but pay extra) and will be increasing pension contributions from 10% to 15% from June 2013.

And one more massive decision...I'm considering doing my CeMAP exams to become qualified as a Mortgage Advisor. Trouble is I have no experience in the financial industry although I absolutely love personal finances. Would even consider the CeFA route after CeMAP.

Anyway, that's it from me! Might do a little backdated savings update if I can scrape anything together this month :-)
