I have to move soon and have now found a new place to move to but it is at an increased rent, plus there is, of course, the cost of moving itself!
Also I am only working part-time at present.

So my already pretty small savings amounts are going to be reduced further. Arrrggg!

Poster girl, that's a real bummer. It's one of the things making me hold off an a possible European relocation (Germans require 3 months rent in advance plus a fee!).

    DesperateHousewife:

I'm on the lowest s/loan repayment rate but I still want to clear it. Stupid to pay it off in 3 years?

I sometimes cycle to work but the weather near Edinburgh is terrible and everybody works different times so...

I really need to do groupon, it's something I can definitely do, thanks.

I'm not skimping on my haircut lol :D

Actually my phone is more like £4.20 a month, but I like to round it up (pessimist).

Present COULD be cheaper, but my girlfriend and I spend a fair bit on each other. I try to tell her to rein it in but it never quite works out...!

Talking about moving abroad - the money would be better and I'd learn a different language. I'd hope that would make me happy! This is the best job I'll probably ever have, but unfortunately without moving around, one never progresses quickly up the pay scale. I know what you mean though - I'm happy and comfortable right now... but if I had to move out of home, I'd need more money.. Unfortunately my girlfriend doesn't bring much in. Net we'd have about £2500. Could bump that up to £3k if I made a job move.

Just don't want to be like some of my friends with £150k+ mortgages spread over 35 years...!!

sounds like you are doing everything you can then, I had to laugh about your haircut though!
At least you are saving some money and paying cheap living costs so take advantage of that for a bit till you get some money saved up.

Totally agree. It's strange reading stories in the news about FTBs aged 35+, but I can really relate. A pretty terrible scenario. Even if I have to spend a little extra for a decent holiday, it's worth it - I don't want to be a miser into my mid-30s! Off for hols now - thanks again - appreciate your help :)

you would be better off to not pay off your student loan. Currently the interest on the loan is 1.5% (i think!) as it's linked to the base rate. So you'd be better off putting the loan money into a high interest savings account as you'd earn more interest than what you'd save by paying the loan off!

    Little update from me...

Paid £430 on car in April, then £230 this month. Thankfully I'd put some money into my ISA at the start of April and was still only £200 down from where my bank balance would usually be.

This month has been a little bit different because my lovely gran gave me £1k. I've not been saving well otherwise because of the car and still going out a lot with the guy I'm dating and a trip to London. On the plus side, a work trip aboard must have saved me money on food and petrol for a week!

So, I have opened a new Santander ISA and will transfer my full one and add about £800 of the £1k my gran gave me, so May is covered. June will be hit hard by car insurance, which seems to be going up every year despite me getting older (obviously!) and having more no claims, anybody else experiencing the same?

Finding it hard to keep track of how I'm doing with all the money going in and out at the moment! But I think I'm on track. Mostly...

I'm finding the same with car insurance. I turned 26 on the 7th so my last renewal in Jan was when I was 25 which I thought was the 'magical' age where car insurance starts getting cheaper, but mine was more than the previous year.

It seems silly, I've had the same 1.2 car since 2005 and 8 years no claims with no accidents or points. I shopped around and got the cheapest I could find so have no idea what it would be if I'd had an accident in the past!

Hi everyone! Not been on for a little while so have just added my updates. Still sticking at the savings plans but we have had a bit of an erratic month this month including the boyfriend naughtily booking a last minute jaunt to Milan (he got a ridiculously amazing deal!).

We're now up to £3201.41 so far with an original target of 5k.

I'm going to leave the target as 5k as we have our CCard 0% running out at the end of the year and we need to start paying that at a higher amount each month soon. (We bought all our furniture on it so that we could pay it off slowly and earn more interest on the cash being in savings; I'm just loathe to take it out of savings :o) )

I've been focussing on writing my food blog quite a bit as well as that encourages me to be in the house rather than wandering round the shops spending my money :OP

Going to go back and read lots of the posts from the previous month and pick up some tips!
    First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).
New forever home- Sep’21 £309,449 @ 2.05%. Plan to clear it before 30 years!!!!!!

    Hi Slowly Fading

The spreadsheet has been updated for me, but April's total does not seem to have been added to my score on the front page.

    My total is now £1024.21

Must pull my finger out, seem to be falling short of what I need each month!

    Thanks. :)
