Hi, can you please update my total. I have filled the quick updater (I made two updates in may (£1337 and £1500) But just the last one seems to show up.

    Hi everyone,

Apologies for the slow posting of my April update - work is a bit crazy at the moment. :(

The one (slightly dubious) upside to being uber-busy at work is that it doesn't give you any time to spend your salary!

I'm declaring £2,676 for April, to take my overall total up to £10,169.

Bit of a surprise that I'm not too far my target now, certainly didn't envisage that back in Jan - although a sizeable chunk of these savings are allocated to be spent in 3-4 months time, so will probably end up passing the target then going back below it again!! :rotfl:

Keep up the savings everyone. :)

A very late April update from me (have also updated spreadsheet on first page). Only £553.32 saved this month which is my lowest month so far :(. I could have added another £200ish at least if it wasn't for OH's birthday. On top of that I had £100 for car tax and £300 credit card bill to pay off from my holiday in April. Never mind, May figure has to be better than this!
    Finally bought a home
    Starting mortgage £289,500 31.01.19 - Current outstanding £192,586.98/CENTER]
    Overpayments since 27.03.19: £52,407.47
  • I've declared 1006.45 for April, although it is little bit more than this but I transferred my ISA and now I can't see what the interest for April was on it! (It would be about £25 or so)....annoying.

Nooooo! Don't give up keep going!!!

If you can't generate any more money from anywhere see where you can cut back. I do this on a regular basis (about once a month on payday!)

Go over all your direct debits and see if you can find a cheaper gas, electric, phone, interent, mobile phone etc.. supplier.

Look at your energy usage and check online to see if there is a cheaper energy provider you can go with and do it through quidco or topcashback.

Can you cut back on grocery spending? Checkout the old style thread for cheap family meals and look at the leftovers website for ideas to cut back waste.

Go back to doing a spending diary, have you a secret spend that you havent recognised yet? lattes? daily newspapers etc..?

Could you change supermarkets for food shopping and downscale from branded to aldis own for example?

It depends on your circumstances, if you have kids, married or single, live alone etc but every circumstance can be trimmed down.

Try a few no spend days to see how you go maybe?

No doubt about it though times are hard and we are all feeling the squeeze, I have just forked out £80 and then another £100 on a leaky roof that I didnt budget for but to me savings are like spending, once the money has gone (into the savings account) it has been 'spent' and thats it! I have to catch up the next month.

I am around £1000 overspent at the mo because of extra unforeseen expenses and I overspent on savings which I am now catching up on. I still have my one account mortgage even though I dont owe anything on it but use it as a current account and take advantage of cheap borrowing to dip in and out of as and when, the money I get interest in my ISA is more than what I pay on borrowing it from the one account and its only short term so it doesnt matter and helps me catch up.

Luckily I dont have any big spends the next couple of months such as car mot tax or insurance so I hope to catch up :(

    Keep going :)

I think as we have said before, missing your target in this challenge is, while annoying, not the same as making no progress. If I am only 9k better off at the end of the year, rather than 10k, it'll mean, in the whole scheme of things, i am 9k better off. Even is its just £3.50 more at the end of the year as a result of this chalenge, then this is success!

crikey, where did you find an ISA that beats the Oneaccount rates by enough to make it worth your while?

I fixed for 5 years with halifax at 4.5% so it was worth it as I was only overdrawn for a few days until wages went in ;)
