  • Could you put me down for £12K please - saving for a house, though at current prices I'll never afford one. The sooner prices come down so a sensible salary multiple the better off we will all be.

It will be interesting to see where peeps put the money whilst they're saving it, to maximise the interest and all......

I know there's a couple of months yet, but any ideas which savings accounts are best to chuck the money into?

So about £12k a year like the rest of us mortals lol...
Well done on your ebay sales etc in your signature!

I don't mean to be nosy when asking these questions - I'm just curious, trying to get a benchmark of how well/poorly I'm doing. OK, so maybe that's being a bit nosey :o

    Exactly!

I should maybe aim for more as I've recently had a pay rise, but will revise my goal as the year progresses.

  • West Brom and Northern Rock - I'm getting 4.1% and 4% respectively on those accounts until June time that will cover off £500 a month. Then I need to find another account next year to save in.

Also would need to look at next years cash ISA's too, so wherever I save the extra I'll need easy access to move it into that ISA.

I'm using the Santander current account for 5% on first 2.5k, the reward regular saver at 5% and the easy saver at 3.1%. Will look into a new ISA in April. Was going to get the first direct regular saver at 8% but they declined me :(

  • Just stumbled upon this thread - what agreat idea. Count me in!
  • Not wishing to go against the grain of covention here, I think that any income should be permitted, be it interest on savings or, for those lucky enough, rental income.

My plan is to raise my savings from 'X' on Jan 1, 2012 to 'X + 12K' by Dec 31, 2012. Most of this will come from savings resulting from job income, naturally, but I'm going to include the small portion contributed by my savings, ISAs and NS&I index-linked certificates; I'll certainly need this boost to hit 12K.

Glad you said this as I would definitely be counting interest on savings to my total (if it's allowed!) :)
