I have transferred some of our (previously undeclared on this thread!) holiday savings into the ISA before the end of the financial year and its the first year we've ever had 2 full ISAs without it being earmarked for anything else! I can save up the holiday money again before it due so I am really pleased with the way its going.
Having said that I have been looking into DD1 going to uni in september....AAAARGH! Not only do we have to navigate the horrors of the UCAS system (teachers c*cked up her predicted grades and put the wrong grade down so she has had no offers and has to start again through UCAS extra) but the gov website for applying for a loan wants toknow allsorts of info about how much interest we earned on savings. Now, being a bit of a rate tart I cant remember which account I had in 2010-2011 never mind how much was in it! I didnt have much, we saved up for a bit then spent it on a holiday and getting the bathroom done (which was falling to bits).
Anyone got any advice?
I'll have to search round for paperwork but I am scared we'll get into trouble with the taxman if we put something down incorrectly, it isnt deliberate, just shoddy filing, didnt realise I had to keep everything!
Might have to 'guesstimate' or just put nil....
Its being borrowed anyway so she will spend the rest of her working life paying it all back. Apart from that she will have £500 to live on for the year once her rent and food is taken off so we will have to send her some money every month, denting the savings attempt!
Everyone seems to be doing well, well done! A penny saved is a step forward not backwards.
So, I'm declaring a grand total of £3630 this year so far but predict that the rest of the month (and next month) will be lean on the savings front.

£250 into the new car fund, but nothing else expected until £300 hits the FD regular saver just before the end of the month - looks to be shaping up to be rather an expensive month on the car front, with a service and MOT for one and a new clutch for the other...0

I've moved across £500 for March already, giving me £4700 in the ISA. I might fill the ISA up now and either go into my overdraft or into the extra in my account that's meant for car insurance. This is a bit risky and assumes I will have no big/unexpected spends in April. I'm sure it'll be fine though!

Got some catching up to do in March. February was horribly expensive and March has just started with £165 car tax plus nearly £400 car insurance
( Finished Feb £262 under target so will have to do some serious money saving this month to claw that back plus the regular £1000...

Hey,
You've probably got this sorted now and this probably isn't much help but if I were you I'd probably try and get the figure as accurate as you can (or at least use figures that you can see being credited to any savings accounts you have). My student loans/grants (Scotland) were based on my Dad's declared self employed income and as soon as I applied for 3rd year they asked for my Dad's proof of all the details because my sister was applying for the first time as well. I ended up having to go through the route of not using parents income to determine the loan/grant amount because it became apparent my Dad had decided to either make the numbers up or that he was up to no good on his tax returns or something (who knows really!).
Hope you get it figured out! x0 -
Updated my sheet. April is going to be hard!! Car insurance. Tax, mot, service and tyres. Ouch. From England - Live in Edinburgh and work as a bus driver0

OMG! thanks for the heads up on this one as I will be in the same situation with DD2 being 2 years behind. I'd better get a big box now to put all the paperwork and everything in!
I've sorted it now, sat down on Saturday afternoon and we went through everything, sent it off and hoping its accurate.Save £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000
