I doubt I can save £12k in 2012 with a yearly income after rent of £9990...

I did manage to save about £1k in my last pay window (I get paid quarterly), despite Christmas, which made up for the fact I overspent in the previous pay window by £500 (mainly due to a new rental deposit, car stuff and a shiny HTPC :D).
  • £135 CHB money transfered in to the pot today.

There is a possibility we'll have to dip into savings in about 5 days or so to see us through till pay day on the 15th.

Think I've been a bit too keen in January as well. :D But come payday every penny will go back into savings!!!

    Keep it up everybody

Can I also join this thread?? I have recently become debt free and am now on the road (along with my partner) to saving for a house deposit - the aim is to have £30k by the end of 2013 (or sooner if we can!!). We both have a reasonably good income so I see no reason why this can't be done. . .I need a) encouragement and b) to stop indulging my passion for travelling (trips away, holidays!). I'm looking to this thread to help me do this!:A

Look forward to joining you all on your journeys :T
Now totally debt free & it feels better than anything money can buy!
Next stop - savings pot for house deposit :j

Hi to all the newbies to the thread

Another £8 transferred over from ebay this week, every little helps! :D I'm hoping to be at the £1000 mark but the end of Feb cos that would be a huge achievement for me and 1/5 of my total aim for the year :D

Got a tax refund in my occupational pension this month. So I have swept £1000 over into savings account and I'm determined to manage on what I've got left in my current account, or even try and save a bit more if possible.

My 20 year old son rang me up in a panic this afternoon as he'd been to the cash point, expecting money to be in his account but found that an expected credit hadn't been made. His phone bill is being debited from his account today and he realised that he was hours away from bank charges for going overdrawn. He wanted just a £21 bail out for a couple of days. I was really pleased about this, because he has been too embarrassed to say he's run out of money in the past and has run up heavy bank charges as a consequence, which has made things even worse for him. He's not the most financially savvy. But this is a sign that he is starting to think ahead and be more realistic about his finances. I know it would be even better if he could start to build up a bit of money to cushion himself, but this is babysteps in the right direction.
  • Slowly but surely edging my way towards the £1000.

Is it just me or is Superscrimpers on C4 a dreadful programme? It could so easily be good with really useful tips, but it's so dumbed down and everyone is spoken to as if they're half witted.

Ooooh I just looked at car insurance quotes (3 months early but want to be prepared!) and it's gone down £100 from last year, hope it doesn't go back up in the next 3 months!!

Haha. Glad I'm not the only one who may have been a bit over zealous in transferring money to savings! Mind you, February is a short month and it's already only 2 weeks to pay day!

I went on Google docs a few nights ago and did a search for budget spreadsheets and got some brilliant ideas for my own! I've never had a proper budget before and now I feel super organised! What with that at the Expense Manager app on my android, I feel in a MUCH better position for looking after my money. In fact, I look back last year and when I got married and I'm embarrassed how I don't know how much we spent! Never kept log! (Mind you, we did it very sensibly: village hall, DIY buffet etc).
  • Oh only 6 days to go til OH's payday.

Cannot wait to get more money over. I have an extra £120 sitting at the min also but I think Im going to use that for paint and a showerscreen for the bathroom. Really need to get it finished. :) I wish our house was perfect so all our money coould go into savings unfortunately that is not the case.

Im very lucky though only a few decorating issues to sort nothing major except we need to invest in a new boiler eventually as ours is very much past its sell by date :( Going to do a house list today of things we need to get. Hopefully the house will be complete by the summer :)
