Credit File Query

I have just received my credit file from experian as I have had trouble getting credit for the past couple of years and couldn't understand why!

2 years ago Barclaycard finally admitted messing up my account and they even paid me £50 compensation, cleared the account and provided a letter stating they had removed the default from my credit file as it was unjust.

Lo & behold my credit file still has the default & an outstanding amount of nearly £200 on it. What do I do next?

Write to Barclays enclosing a copy of the letter they sent you stating that the credit report has not been updated. They are unlikely to compensate you because you will find it hard to prove that you have suffered financially because of it. You can try though.
Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.

You could also contact the Credit Reference Agencies and place a dispute on your file in relation to the default until the matter is resolved.

The Credit Reference Agencies are also able to take this matter further for you by contacting Barclaycard directly and disputing the Default on your behalf.

You could always approach this from both sides.

That would be next to useless.

Dispute it with Experian and Equifax. They will write to Barclays and ask for an explanation, and if it is as you say then they will wipe it from your credit file.

Might also be worth a call to Barclays yourself, but in my experience these guys act quicker when its a credit reference agency chasing them up.

I had a problem with Natwest a while ago, was taking ages to sort things out with them and there was a default on my file. I registered a dispute with Experian directly who attempted to contact Natwest. They didn't bother to reply so Experian removed it automatically.
