PPI insurance not linked to company

If you buy a PPI policy direct from an insurer, which is vastly cheaper than from the provider, what dies it cover?
i.e. if i was to buy such a policy which would cover sickness, unemployment etc etc as standard, would it cover ALL my commitments or would a seperate policy be required for each?

No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

you can buy policies to cover accident sickness redundancy and critical illness for whatever amount to want...so yes they will pay you the money and then you use the money for whatever.
google something like 'income payment protection'0 -
