Hi everyone
Mary Berry is being cursed in my house. I'm making her tarte au citron and the pastry base has cracked slightly as it's risen a bit even though I followed the recipe. Is there anything I can do to seal it?
It's been blind baked and I'm about to make the filling. Do you think egg wash and another quick blast in the oven might work?
TIA
Lucy

Same here, had to have a little (admittedly immature) snigger :rotfl:Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right ~ Henry Ford0 -
What about a bit of flour and water mixed together to make a thin paste, so basically flour glue, paste on and put it back in oven for a few minutes? It shouldn't effect the taste as it's only a little more of what's in pastry any way. Hope it turns out okayUnofficial Debt Free Wannabee.

I was going to suggest a flour/water glue too. I'd do that, bake it, then seal it with an egg wash & bake again, just for a couple of minutes each time0

Thanks folks. I tried with a bit of egg white as I didn't get to the replies in time as I was rushing to get it finished for when the kids come home. I'll bear that in mind for next time though, quiche is my next project (maybe tomorrow) so I might need the flour glue for that! I'm not sure if it has worked as yet as it's cooling in the tin.
To be honest it looks nothing like Mary Berrys. I think I blind baked it for too long. Hers was golden brown and my is errr..well. Dark brown. It looks like an omelette too, which probably isn't very correct :rotfl:
I think I'm better sticking with rustic things that all this perfect precise stuff. I have an electric fan oven which is taking some getting used to as well. It's a bit quick!
Thanks for the replies though. I thought the title might make a couple of you giggle.

A thin layer of molten chocolate would have worked too, however maybe not in the quiche...
