Shop working hours

When I worked in retail it was common to stay much later, especially as it was tourist based so didn't really have a set closing time, could be anywhere between 5pm-7pm depending on how busy it was, and of course there was the cashing up and tidying up. We ALWAYS filled in our timesheets with the time that we left to the nearest quarter of an hour and weren't expected to work for free, all these employers I am reading about in this thread who expect people to work for free on minimum wage is ghastly.0

no claire if the store is unlocked with nobody on shop floor that leaves it vulnerable to theft - if anyone would steal their products..
nobody can see you through window as they are not on shop floor but all in a room upstairs. even if they were on shop floor tiny store is so cluttered, crowded and bad designed there is a unit in front of door that means you cant see door from tills etc..
To me its very badly designed and unprofessional when they told me i would have to tell customers with wheelchairs and buggies that they cannot enter store when it gets nearer xmas and more crowded i was shocked. as it is NOW if someone has a buggy down one of the tiny aisles nobody else can browse, get past or sort out displays (if staff)

Retail and cleaning are the worst jobs ever! Staff are treated like sh*t. I know because when I was able to work I did both jobs and all of the companies were really bad to work for and I blame a lot of my health problems now on some of the jobs that I have worked over the years.

Not necessarily. Access rights can be curtailed by the feasability of access and the exercise of health and safety consderations. Rights to access are not absolute and could never be. If a shop floor, for example, is very small and aisles are narrow, and it is not feasible to change that, then that may be a justification for restricting access on the basis that there is inadeqaute space for wheelchairs and/or the crowds make it a risk to the safety of people, including disabled people, if aisles were blocked by a wheelchair in an emergency.0 -
