Chicken in a balloon like plastic bag

I've just bought a small chicken from Tesco and the plastic bag that it's in is full of air, bit like a balloon.
Does this mean that there is something wrong with the chicken, or just the way it's pagkaged?
Thanks.

describes the same effect. It states :
A week after its ‘use by’ date stamp, the pack in my fridge is inflated with a foul-smelling bacterial gas. Dr Dinsdale says that, on his samples, this was even the case on the chicken’s ‘use by’ date. Cooking the meat will kill the bacteria.
Dr Dinsdale explains: ‘The chicken was safe to eat, and I cooked and ate it, although the “off” odour in the chicken was noticeable. Most people would, rightly, be guided by their noses and not eat this0 -

All the chickens in the 3 for £10/4 for £12 meat deal were like this when I bought some a couple of weeks ago. I don't think it was a case of the meat giving off gas, it seemed to be a different way of packing them. I seem to remember reading something about using some sort of gas to improve the keeping qualities of various different foods.
Anyway, I used one straight away - it didn't smell any different when unpacked and neither DH nor I noticed any difference in taste and neither of us were ill. One went straight into the freezer and was defrosted and cooked last weekedn. Again, no obvious problems and no ill effects.ELITE 5:2

Hi i've also had to take a chicken/mince back to Tesco and always make sure they put a complaint into head office whilst i'm at CS desk and then a £5 moneycard has arrived in the post a couple of days later each time by way of apology0 -
ive found this since tesco has had this new way of packaging chickens the packs always seem infalted like they have "blown" and gone off, but the chicken is actually fine inside, also the dates seem to be getting longer, bought some chickens from tesco a few weeks ago with about 9/10 days life on it!!!0
