Tax Refunds?

Is there an online way to find out if you or your spouse is due a tax refund? How many years back can these go?

  • I had a tax refund from 2004 turn up on my doorstep before christmas. They just sent it through automatically and quite a few people I know had them come before christmas as well. You could always call the inland revenue but I don't know of any online places that can tell you..

i dont know of an online site.
but i can't see how it would work ..if they knew they owed you money then they would pay you and if they didn't know it wouldn't be on the online site.
but you can get refunds up to six years.

do you have specific problem or are you travelling in hope

    I just found one :p

You need either your FINAL payslip for the year or your P60

enter the figures in the relevant areas - it then tells you how much you should have paid and how much you owe or are owed. I apparently owe £2 over the last two years  (dont want no bailiffs at my door :rotfl: )

Not sure how it would work for self employed or those with taxable benefits - ie company car

You can go back up to six years, has your OH changed jobs, or had any gaps in employment? That's usually when too much tax is paid.

At 5th April, then the earliest year you can go back moves on, so if you do think he has overpaid, then get in touch with tax office quick, but you may show up underpayments and then owe them money. :D

On the HMRC web site, it will give you details of the personal allowance for each year, to get a code number, the final number is dropped and replaced by a letter.

Have you got old P60's to check code at year end?

    Thanks Oscar52

I used the website you suggested and based on their calculator I am due a refund of £110!

I will put that towards my debt, one more payment made early!
