Becoming an NVQ Assessor?

Hi!
I've been looking into this as a possible career move.
I have 5 years experience in Customer Service(Call Centre) and at the time I would consider moving into this field, 1 years management experience in a Call Centre.
I've been looking into the assessor awards such as A1, which all look confusing as there appears to be several types, some which are no longer available. PLLTS is another. However, I already have QTS (Secondary) and all these courses seem to be based on assessment, which is what I did as a teacher. I have a BA (hons) in an unrelated subject. I also did NVQ L2 Customer Services as a teenager but have lost the certificate...
It's a bit of a minefield. Can anyone advise if I would need the assessor award because I'm already a qualified teacher? Or would I be able to get a job with the experience and qualifications I already hold?
Thank you in advance - I am aware I have an interesting career history...
(Edited to add: It would be NVQ Customer Services I would want to assess)

I don't agree there. I've taught BTEC which is all about vocational and practical assessment. Thanks for the link, by the looks of it, the NVQ's are being phased out anyway. I think I'll just stick to management and training, seems like I'd need a further 3 qualifications to be an assessor!0 -
If you want to do true NVQ assessing you will need to do an assessor qualification. This used to be called the A1 but was changed in September. If you contact your local college they will be able to advise further.
As for the teaching qualification because you are dealing with post 16 you will still need to work towards PTLLS/CTLLS to teach. Hope that is a little clearer but contact me if not.0 -
NVQ assessing is mainly around occupational competence rather than teaching so your are ensuring your candidates have met a set standard in building up a portfolio of evidence to show they have met that standard. Your role as an assessor is not to teach the subject but to provide guidance on how to provide that evidence. Definitely contact your local FE College and speak to their Teacher Training department, they may allow you to be on their list of associate assessors while working towards your A1, they may even help you get the A1.0
