  • ...The poster 'James Bond' has a good point - the mess we're in now is largely down to the baby-boomers (50's - 60's) and the consumer society they created.

    Nah - I blame the Romans :)

Anyway, good to see that many posters in this thread are very much practising what they preach and recycling their own posts and comments as the thread continues...

Hope I'm not going off thread here, but you'll see from my user name I hate anything that's usable/recyclable being chucked away.
This week had two neighbours who had sold their houses and were moving. Lovely people, and they know I'm a hoarder, so asked me to take anything of use before they took it to the council skips.
You won't believe what the lads (20 something yr olds) next door left : Play Station 2, Freeview unit, both in full working order, unopened designer aftershaves, a punch bag with boxing gloves, new unopened Poker game, new Shrek stuff, fishing keep net, new gazebo, 2 x new garden chairs, dartboard, portable tv/video combo....and more. And that's just from one neighbour, loads more off the other.
I don't understand why people want to chuck good stuff away...?
Most of the stuff has been given away, the PS2 I gave to a lovely 8 year old.
You should have seen his little face light up......sheer joy!
My house is still in a mess with the other stuff, but hey, if I can pass it on to someone who otherwise couldn't afford it, it's worth it.
I'm a member of Freecycle Wirral so if items don't go to friends/neighbours soon I will offer them on their site.
    To good to skip
:grouphug: A smile, a 'please' and a 'thank you' cost nothing
