self employed??

Hi all
Not sure if i'm looking for reassurance or what really? I left a job on Friday, job from hell (can't explain the reason as now legal matter).
Anyway, i've thought of re training. I've enquired about an NVQ 2 in painting and decorating. I do enjoy this kind of stuff, (i'm not a sit behind a desk person).
Will be self employed, got alot of get up and go. Hard worker etc etc... all the normal.
I am female and i'm very lucky that my b/friend has a good job, so I need only accomplish a weekly wage. I don't need to earn 1k a week, just a normal wage.
Basically, do you reckon there is a call this at the moment?
I know people are short in regards of money, but thats the bonus for me I guess, I only want a normal wage. Anyway, cant think of what else to write at the mo. :)

  • You could look into a P&D Apprenticeship, there is always a call for hard working, motivated people.

Thanks, yes did look at that to, can't make my mind up??
NVQ starts Monday, but any job offerings that I have look at, do primarily want NVQ qualified people so thats the main reason.
Ill be able to get my CSCS card to. They incorporate the training for that also. If i'm honest, im edging towards this but I guess im looking for people to say 'yay, great go for it' LOL!!!!

  • The apprenticeship will contain the same NVQ, keep looking and ask at the (I assume) College you are attending, they will be speaking to potential apprentice employers all the time.

I've no idea what supply and demand is like at the moment. It's bound to be a bit slow due to the recession but you could say the same about anything. Even jobs from Hell.

We have a team of 2 female P & Ds locally. Obviously I can't say for sure but they seem to be doing alright.

I can imagine some people (particularly the elderly) may prefer a tradeslady but equally there will be those who will doubt you will do as good a job as a man.

Still, if you do your course you will be "fully qualified" so I say get out there and prove them wrong.

I am sure most women will be CERTAIN you can do as good a job as a man lol :T , I think there may be a window of opportunity if you price your services competitively and are willing to take on the small jobs that other firms might not consider worth doing.

    Best of luck!

I would imagine that lone females or older women might prefer to have a woman working in their house than a man. Just my opinion of course. Perhaps ask on a local forum as to whether this is a good move or not.
