In our Aldi if someone needs help to pack (and it's not just disabled folk, it's elderly people and pregnant women as well who can't reach into the trollies easily) the checkout assistant will whistle over another staff member to assist the person rather than hold up the queue. Or if you're the last person in the queue s/he'll ask you to pay then close the till and come round to help you herself. All you have to do is ask for packing assistance.Val.0 -

I always preferred Aldi to lidl when I had the choice between the 2. Fruit & veg quality seems to vary quite a lot from one shop to another, it usually looks good but the produce from one shop will always keep well but the produce from another shop will only last a few days it's probably due to storage conditions. The ground coffee & the dark rum are both particularly good.
£7m for a store, i thought they were quite good at controlling the costs for new store builds but as you say its a very specific design whatever that means.0 -

The stores near me (all of them, in several different towns) have got rid of the small trolleys and now only have these huge - very deep - ones.
I have a back problem and TBH it's difficult enough to put the stuff into these gigantic trolleys in the first place then take it out once, pack it & put it back - without having to put it in the trolley at the checkout, unload it again, pack and put in the trolley again.
I love both A*di and L*dl and like different products at each but I don't go to either very often for this reason.
I did ask once if I could pack at the checkout and explained why, to get a load of eye rolling and sighing - it was if she didn't believe me and thought I was just being difficult.
i understand what you mean as i had customers not happy with me for insisting they pack the shopping on the bench. I bet she didnt think you were being difficult but more "oh drat my items per minute will be shot for today"0 -

The council were very insistent that they had to build more than just a supermarket, they wanted hotel accommodation & office space incorporated into the building & the exterior had to mirror the new(ish) police station up the road.
Not the easiest building to design but eventually the council conceded that it was impossible to combine all those elements & let them drop the office space.
There is an artists impression of the Aldi supermarket/hotel here:

I love Aldi (and Lidl!), my favourites and recommendations for Aldi are - cold meats, yogurts, pasta, cheese, I always buy my tissues, kitchen roll and baby wipes there also huge multi pack of crisps, orange juice, soft drinks, etc, etc!! I use their tall and mighty concentrated colour laundry liquid - excellent! Oh yes their frozen chips are excellent also, better than Sainsbury's value ones!
Today for the first time I bought a ready to eat french loaf (as opposed to a part baked packet of baguettes)- and my daughter and Mr inform me that it's the best they've tasted! Also bought their steak mince and some chicken breasts today - much cheaper than Sainsbury's etc.
I like the fact that there is no music playing - easier to concentrate for me!0 -
