I hate to sound harsh, but in my opinion, DMP's are meant to help people in serious financial hardship regain control of their finances whilst paying back the debt that they have taken out. The idea is not to pay as little as you can and try to wriggle out of debt that you willingly took out.
I am on a DMP and I want to pay back as much as possible, as quickly as possible. I accept that I made bad decisions regarding credit and will pay back what I took. I believe this is morally right.

Given the choice of paying back all the debt I took out in 18 months, or stringing it out over 3 years in the hope that I may get out of paying some back -that's a no brainer, if you can afford £500 a month then pay that and get it over with. CCCS will not leave you with insufficient to live on.

These boards are for help not judgement, but I fear you may not get much support from people here taking that standpoint. Many people here have DMP's that go in to decades, they have decided to take responsibility for their own mess and I feel you should consider this.

You seem to be in a great position that you can quickly get yourself out of this situation, I think you should use the opportunity to do just that.
    DMP with Payplan started 01/07/11
    Starting debt £28,645

    Current estimated DFD 01/11/2019
But I will get it over with sooner!!

I may be in debt longer but I wont be paying as much back, ill have half the monthly payment that the CCCS are asking me for plus ill get about 40% of my debt written off.

Who has told you that you'll get about 40% of the debt written off? Is this one of these dodgy companies? If so, you only need to spend an hour or so on these boards to learn about what really happens with them.

  • Ah, thanks FatBelly - I'd not heard of them before. They sound pretty heavy tbh. I'd rather be on a DMP personally!
  • Yes i agree they look to heavy for my liking especially if you was made redundant or something , I agree with the others id rather clear mine in 18 months than 3 years too. Plus with these make sure you check whatever job you do that you can apply for one as some jobs you cant and will be sacked.

Just a quick update folks, had a long talk with my mum and just came clean about the payday loans, she has paid off my payday loans with her credit card and im going to pay her back the same way i would a loan. Im going to continue paying my credit union loan and credit cards and try and get debt free that way and budget properly. Im so grateful to my mum for helping me out, plus I really didnt want to do that to my credit union. Glad i can repay all the money i owe them.
