Still not sure what to do. I may just take it up and do some 'networking' to find out what their plan is for the temps, and what the chances of permanent are, then leave within a week if it sounds like they are going to get rid of us after xmas, I don't need the experience either. If I really like it and then they get rid of me I'll be gutted. Not sure this temping lark will be for me.
Why? With no alternative employment to go to.
  • I have done both temporary and ongoing temporary roles.

Ongoing just means that they may be a bit longer term, there is no fixed date for the contract to finish. Personally I prefered those. Regardless of whether or not it's temp or ongoing it's still the same that they can say at any time that they don't require your services.

Ongoing roles I have done have all been over a year and one resulted in a permanent role.
It will top up your money and will also be good to put on your CV.

You can still search for permanent jobs while temping, I find that agency websites are not updated often enough that I can't check them in the evening if I can get online during the day.

I am now doing a FTC and to be honest I prefered working for the agency, although the timesheets were a pain making sure someone was available to sign it each week and some companies your name becomes 'the temp' - there was more flexibility for me I found.

Although I am in a "temporary" job, it's really no less secure than a permanant position at the moment other than the fact that when my contract is nearing an end I can ask whether it will be renewed and if not, I will have more time to look for another rather than being given so many weeks notice with no prior warning.

Spoke to someone else today (went for informal chat) who gave the impression there maybe scope for me to become permanent within the company but I've now got two interviews lined up this week for permanent roles at different company's. (typical didn't here anything for ages, these are apps I made about 3 weeks ago!). But these interviews are for 'lesser' jobs in my eyes but if successful I'd be mad not to take permanent over temporary.
