Hi,
I got mine there in January this year, from E Katz. They are up the end. It's good fun shopping as there are lots of options. I think you tend to find you do have a style you will like, and then you can go from shop to shop looking for that basic style. Worth trying on as many as you can as I found I got quite fussy once I found one I quite liked, and was just trying to get it ever more slightly perfect.
There is a bargaining culture that I am not comfortable with. E Katz doesn't seem to bargain too much, but their prices were much lower than everyone else for what seemed to be much better quality stones, at least IMHO.
It's a really fun thing to do by the way. We had a great time, although actually making the final decision was very hard!0 -
We bought ours there in December last year, and plan to return to get our wedding bands too.
We went on a Sunday - slightly fewer shops are open, but plenty to choose from. We started off with a lovely big breakfast at the cafe on the corner of Greville and Kirby streets while we plucked up our courage. Then we browsed up and down the street, just window shopping. I narrowed down a few I liked, then we went in to try them on. We got prices from the shops and said we'd come back if we decided to buy. Most offered us a discount from the 'window price' there and then, without haggling.
When we'd narrowed it down to 2, I asked if they could improve on their prices, and both offered further reduction. I chose the one I liked best and settled a price. Then we had a browse round that shop for my fiance's ring. (He wasn't sure he wanted one, so was happy just to look at the shop's selection). As he found one he liked, we then negotiated a price for both and ended up with a hefty discount. It was obvious that the shop expected to negotiate, so there was no weirdness about it
We have also been offered a discount if we buy our wedding bands there (we intend to) so I expect to have saved several hundreds of pounds in all.
I say go for it and enjoy! It's quite funny walking up and down a street entirely full of couples and people also shopping for engagement rings, but it's great fun. I reckon that if you're going to buy the ring together it's a great place, as it has a real feeling of occasion! Have a great time0
