Another food question: reception meal query

We have chosen to have a fork buffet for our wedding reception which consists of:
Sliced Roast Beef
Sliced Country Ham
Plain and BBQ Chicken Drumsticks
Spicy Sausages
Selection of Bread Rolls
Assorted Vegetable Quiches
Wedged Jacket Potatoes
Selection of Dips
Selection of Rice and Pasta Salads
Coleslaw
Potatoes Salad
Brussels Pât! Served with Melba Toast
Cheese Selection with Crackers
Onion Bhaji
Spring Rolls
Samosas
Mild Curry Dip
Seafood Platter
Marie Rose Sauce
Mozzarella Cheese Sticks
Hot Jalapeño & Mozzarella Bites
Crispy Vegetables
Is this ok for a wedding reception? We're getting married at 3pm so I'm guessing the meal will be at around 5:30ish.

I was looking at having a beef dinner but I really can't justify £12 for a couple of slices of beef, some veg and a couple of yorkshires, especially when you can get one in the bar for £5.95 (also it is a carvery meal not waitress served).

Also do we provide a selection of deserts?

We are having either a basic buffet on the evening or possibly hot beef rolls with roast potatoes, guessing to be served at around 8:30pm, not sure if that's relevant or not.

  • Can't you speak to the venue and point out the discrepancy in pricing and see what they can offer? I'd be quite annoyed - nothing like feeling ripped off to get me cross!!

Your fork buffet sounds gorgeous though!!!
  • Hi

This is very similar to what we are having, we are getting married at 3 and will be sitting down around 5 ish. I think this is fine for a wedding, you list sounds yummy, theres a good variety and there will be something for everyones taste.

I think the reason for the higher costs could be: serving a lot of people all at the same time will mean more staffing waitressing (clearing plates etc), more staff in the kitchen etc. Also it could include tablecloths, napkins etc?. If this is what you want why dont you try and find out if they can do a deal on the price and find out exactly what is included?

We are paying £12 a head (£6 for children) for our cold meat buffet but this does include puddings, it includes using their tablecloths, napkins etc and it also means that they will set up the whole room for us (which was what sealed the deal for us!!). We will also be having a buffet in the evening, but this will include some things that they will serve hot. I just dont know how many people to cater for in the evening!! (your idea of hot beef rolls sounds delicious).
