Christmas stocking alternatives for boys...

Ok, so that might be confusing, so I'll explain.

For Christmas, I'm making the children at church (and a few family members) little knitted 'stocking' things, only I'm trying a design that's actually more of a drawstring bag. Great for the girls, not-so-great for the boys.

I don't want to leave them out but I'm completely stumped! Anyone else have any ideas?!

I'm putting little chocolate coins in them, along with a small colouring book/crayons, etc... Nothing too fancy, just a little token, really.

For the older girls, I'm replacing the colouring books/crayons with handmade jewellery, hairclips, etc. As for the boys? Well, I'm still thinking! I did think about making little teddy bears for the younger boys but I don't think they'd appreciate it (unless they're very little) so any ideas on that front would be ace too.

My brain turns to goop when trying to think of creative things to make for boys/men...!

  • Do you remember those little paper/plasticy aeroplane things that you put together yourself, how about something like that? In my experience, anything that involves 'putting together' is really engaging for older boys! HTH

A yoyo? Whistle? Dice? Tiny pack of playing cards?

  • a simple-sewn drawstring bag & then inside a "matchbox" car. Most usual places do a cheap multipack that you can split. Most boys would be happy with a car I would think. (my two certainly would)

There was a cheap stocking-filler website on here a few weeks ago, but otherwise there is Baker Ross for all things crafty/novelty like the aeroplanes someone mentioned, they also own YellowMoon, which allows groups to earn discounts with each purchase. (although they can be dearer than other places)

Another idea for boys, maybe not what you are looking for, OP, but may help someone, is one of those clear plastic boxes filled with boy trinkets:

My boys of 7 and 9 appreciated them and you can make them age appropriate. :)

  • Tesco currently have light up yoyos in various colours down from £1 to 20p :j I picked one up for my nephew and a friends little boy, can't go wrong at 20p! and they are the fill sized ones not the mini ones...and of course they light up! would fit into a little bag nicely. I found them on the hanging strips they hang from tops of shelves in the toy area
