Underpaid tax - work's fault

Hi,

This is as much a warning for folk who request their tax payments to be reviewed as a request request for advice.

Got my tax reviewed for 2004/2005 thinking i'd get a few quid back and they said that my company underpaid my tax by approx £100. This'll be deducted from my wages over the next few months.

Is this worth taking up with where i work? The payroll dept are woeful - missing paydays, leaving out overtime, expenses taking ages to come thru. Luckily it's only a small amount and if it's tax that due it needs to be paid so i'm ok with that. The worrying thing is that i could end up with this happening again, and if i never checked it out would i have been liable for penalties, fines and interest?
