That's kind of my point.
When you throw around words like "capital" and "income", then redefine them to mean something other than the normally accepted meaning, it's a form of dishonesty. Plain speech is preferable.
Unfortunately the legislation has been drafted piecemeal as benefits legislation changes have been made over the years and such drafting tends to be in "legalese" rather than in plain English - sometimes for good reason, often for no reason other than the people who draft it like to sound pompous. There are very few pieces of legislation in any area that read in plain English to be honest. Anyway, until a government gives priority to sorting out the confusing mess that is social security legislation we are stuck with the mess that the legislation is and just have to .
Strangely though while the explanation in the guidance for terms such as Tariff Income are in plain English some people just can't get past the words to the plain and simple explanation that is available to explain them.0 -
Yep, you may get some assistance with the interest but not with the capitol.
With regard to your initial question I was in the same position last year and because my "savings" were over the limit (as I had lodged my redundancy cheque), the helpful lady who interviewed me in the DHSS advised me to buy a new car or put a new kitchen in.....................
I hope it turns out OK for you.
Be careful - there are rules about deprivation of capital.
To be honest I think you should post this on the benefits forum where you will get responses from people who are experts in the area.
